Sewing Masks for LA Fire Department

My neighbor Jane heard through a friend that the LA firefighters were headed for a shortage of face masks at the onset of the coronavirus outbreak. LA Fire Department’s rapidly diminishing supplies of personal protective equipment was severe at that stage.

Jane enlisted me to help sew masks with nonwoven fabrics and high density cotton to deliver to LAFD in less than 48 hours. It was a group effort, with neighbors cutting the fabrics and elastics. Jane delivered the ‘kits’ for me to sew. 500 masks were delivered to LAFD in the first week of April. I was so proud to be on the team sewing masks for our first responders. We kept sewing for 3 more weeks, until finally the PPE arrived for LAFD. Thanks to a group of neighbors in Pasadena for an amazing effort!
